Bio-lu bioceramics as scaffold for cartilage cell growth


Chondrocytes seeded bioceramic cylinders have been implanted in the osteochondral defect of the proximal humeral articulation in sheep. After 12 weeks, the cartilage locally regenerated. The pores got gradually filled by the cartilaginous tissue and in the meantime the bioceramic was progressively resorbed (A and B). After 20 weeks, the newly cartilage formed into and onto the implant and had completely it covered (C and D). At this step, the control group did not show such results (E and F).
